Animate the Global Change: Raising awareness about plastic use

On 22.07.2017, the first practice phase of the "Animate the Global Change" project took place at the Adidogomé Assiyéyé Market in Lomé. This initiative, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of plastic use and promote sustainable practices.

Empowering communities through awareness campaigns

During the event at Adidogomé Assiyéyé Market, volunteers engaged with market-goers through interactive activities, including demonstrations on how to reduce plastic use and discussions about the environmental benefits of adopting eco-friendly habits. The campaign reached a diverse audience, providing practical tips on minimizing plastic waste and fostering a collective commitment to a healthier environment.

It started with a training session in Lome

The project began with a training session from 31.03-9.04.2017, where 30 participants from Europe and Africa gathered in Lomé to learn about global education with a focus on street campaigns. This training equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively raise awareness and engage communities in environmental initiatives. The practice phase in Togo is a critical step before the second round of training, scheduled to take place in Busteni, Romania, in September.

Kick-off meeting

"Animate the Global Change" kicked off with a meeting from 11-15.01.2017, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Coordinators from eight countries: Romania, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, and Togo, all came together to discuss the project's ongoing activities and future plans. This meeting set the stage for the training and practice phases.

Conclusion

The "Animate the Global Change" project exemplifies how international cooperation and community engagement can drive meaningful change. The first practice phase at Adidogomé Assiyéyé Market was a success, raising awareness about plastic use and inspiring community members to adopt more sustainable practices. As the project progresses, the volunteers' dedication and the collaborative efforts of participating countries will continue to promote environmental sustainability and global education.
